Why is coaching value for money?
We often spend significant amounts of money on doing things to make us feel better or improve our wellbeing like, getting our hair done, going for a nice meal, having a spa day, shopping, buying a nice bottle of wine, and much more. While these are all ways a person could use to cheer themselves up, they are at best temporary fixes. Coaching on the other hand is an investment in your future. Coaching will have a powerfully, positive impact on your future, whilst giving you a feeling of being in control and direction in the present. How much would you pay to create the life you want?

How will I know I will get on with my coach?
This is a good question because for your coaching to be successful you need to feel you can express yourself openly and comfortably and that means having rapport with your coach. The best way to find out is to give me a call. In order to make sure coaching is for you and to find out what you are looking for, we will have a number of telephone and email conversations and we will start to get a feel for each other. It is important for you to feel at ease with me.
For Professional Organisations
Why is Health and Wellbeing coaching cost effective for my organisation and business?
According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development sickness absence costs an average of £692 per employee per year, so it is clear that employee health and wellbeing must be addressed by employers in order to keep their business profitable. Also to be considered are the costs to the company of unfit, unwell, under motivated, stressed, or burned out employees that arrive at work only to render a small percentage of their potential. The result is an organisation losing money from many angles. Coaching can assist in reducing these losses.

Coaching is a non-directive discipline that creates self-awareness and responsibility in the coachee and enables them to move forward in their career performance by proactively identifying the areas of their health and wellbeing that are having an impact on them performing according to their potential within the work place. This means that the individual will be working on consistently finding solutions to prevent them from being off absent from work, not giving their best at work, and burning out. This in turn has a positive impact on the rest of the staff, especially if coaching is available to all staff as a resource.
The poor management of health and wellbeing often leads to employees developing long-term illness and leaving their position. This can be prevented in many cases through the management of their wellbeing. This saves the organisation the money spent on paying other members of staff overtime for doing extra duties, employing temporary staff, and recruiting new staff.
Not to be neglected is the fact that the job itself may be affecting the employee’s wellbeing because of challenges faced. Coaching enables the employee to face these challenges in a responsible way and take action to take control of their performance at work. Increased job satisfaction improves performance, the employee’s confidence and self-esteem, and positively impacts on their personal life. Coaching is an essential tool for all organisations that want a strong, responsible, and active work force.

How can I ensure my staff will respond to coaching?
This is an important question because the success of coaching depends on the coachee being committed to the coaching relationship and their success. When an employee is told they have to attend a coaching session, they could view it as a form of discipline or feel that they don’t need to change, and that other do. Getting your staff onboard is essential.
When I work with a client, I always spend some time on ensuring that they understand what coaching is about and drawing out of them the areas they feel need to improve for them to be happier at work and in general. This gives them an opportunity to develop a relationship with me and understand that coaching is about their personal success.
When coaching is going to be delivered throughout the organisation, it is useful to have a workshop where the employees can meet me, learn more about the principles behind coaching, give them a taste of coaching, and get them thinking about how they would like to use their coaching sessions.
Coaching is not for everyone and it may come to light that your employee needs counselling or another kind of therapy before they can be supported in moving forward through the coaching relationship. In this case, I would let the client know this and postpone the coaching relationship. The details would remain confidential, however I would let the employer know that coaching is not right for them at this moment.
Coaching is a space to your employees to have some time out for themselves to look at everything affecting their performance, so they generally respond positively.

How will you ensure coaching will always be for the success of my company and not just the individual?
This is a very important question as coaching will enable the employee to see how their goals can be achieved successfully and as a business owner or employer, you want those successes to form part of your success!
Unless otherwise agreed, coaching within your business will focus on goals related to successful performance at work and removing the current obstacles experienced by the employee. Their health and wellbeing is very personal to them and it is vital to your business that your employees feel good. We will agree how the successful impact of coaching on your business will be measured.

How is coaching delivered within an organisation?
The delivery of coaching within an organisation is very flexible and can be arranged according to the needs and objectives of the company. Coaching can be offered on a one to one basis with employees, group coaching can also be part of the solution and is very effective within businesses. Telephone coaching is available to employees off site or in order to fit in with changing schedules. I can be retained for a certain number of hours and those hours can be delivered in a flexible manner.

How will coaching help my staff with disabilities or chronic health challenges?
I know from personal experience how isolating chronic ill health and disabilities can be for an employee and that insufficient support is what often leads to sickness absence and termination of employment. Many individuals experiencing these health challenges are struggling to come to terms with what is happening to their bodies and the impact that this is having on their lives in general that finding the mental space and strength to develop positive and constructive strategies can be overwhelmingly difficult. Coaching provides this exact support and will enable them to find ways to manage their situation so they can continue to perform at work despite their health challenges.

How will coaching prevent burnout within my organisation?
The main symptoms of burnout are: mental exhaustion, feeling empty, and drained of all energy. These symptoms then can manifest themselves as anger, frustration, cynicism, neglect of self and responsibilities, and complete reduction of performance. Burnout generally occurs when an individual’s output in their professional life is completely out of balance with the input they receive. So they will be striving to provide an excellent service to their clients but not feel that their efforts are appreciated or perhaps even making a difference. Coaching gives the individual valuable ‘input’ or space for them to look at what they are doing, receive praise for their achievements, and address challenges they face as so that they can develop a strategy to maintain balance, keep their energy levels high, regain a sense of purpose, and feel mentally stimulated.
Burnout prevention via coaching is essential within any organisation wanting to hold onto and develop their key members of staff.

How does coaching differ to the Occupational Health Support already offered to my staff?
Occupational Health Support is an important part of supporting the health and wellbeing of you staff. Occupational Health Support will give suggestions as to how the employee can manage their health and then the employee is left to implement this advice. The advice may be correct, however the employees often need further support in taking responsibility for putting it into practice. Employers receive a report from Occupational Health detailing what the employee needs to do and what they need to do, however the employer often needs support in putting this into practice. This is an example of where coaching will support employers. Coaching will enable the employee and employer to create positive and proactive strategies to implement advice given by OH and then take it further by helping to sustain this positive change.

What support can be offered to members of staff who are on sick leave?
Telephone coaching can be offered to members of staff on sick leave to enable them to focus on ways they can support their recovery and return to work. Being on sick leave can increase the employees focus on the negative and result in a lowered desire to return to work. Coaching enables the employee to refocus and move towards being ready to return to work. Ongoing coaching can assist in creating the kind of lasting change that will enable the employee to maintain their attendance at work.

How will providing coaching improve my company profile?
Coaching is an investment in the future and success of your employees and providing it makes you an investor in people which is what quality candidates are looking for in an organisation. As you invest in your employees, their loyalty will increase as they feel valued, this in turn will lead to them personally investing in your company’s status. Employee testimonials are a huge recruitment tool and providing coaching will greatly increase the numbers of positive and dynamic testimonials you receive. Providing coaching for your organisation will give you a leading edge over many as a coached organisation is an ever-forward moving one, not stagnant and this means credibility and recognition within your industry.
